Semi Feudal in Indonesian Political system

Dedicated to My Big Love”
Semi-Feudal In Indonesian Political System
Ade The Great

There’s a politic sociological indication which happens in recent political situation, that’s semi-feudalism in our political system. An illegal passenger (penumpang illegal alias Rombongan Liar-‘Romli’) in political system, it uses to describe someone who uses family power, family name, biological clan, as an instrument to hold the power, to become legislative, governor, and the other political positions.

The illegal passenger is sister, brother, or nephew who becomes legislative exploit the authority and the popularity of family and maybe parent’s popularity. Meanwhile, the illegal passenger has not political capability, has nothing for the nation and the state. Because many illegal passengers in Indonesia, we can call them ‘feudal generation’.

This feudal generation, of course can’t be hoped become politician with independent mentality and be autonomous for health and natural competition when this feudal generation has to compete with the citizens who come from their ability, their strength without popularity of family, without nepotism and feudal links.

This feudal generation is being used by the bigger political force, the patron, patrons who gave them the enjoyable way to hold the power. The patrons, absolutely will tell, ask, and insist the feudal generation to do something or maybe many things for the patron’s interest. And I think it’s not good for Indonesian people, and also hurts all Indonesian people. In fact, Indonesian political phenomenon can’t ‘escape’ from dynastic culture and semi-feudalism. I think when Indonesian people were doing National Movement and Independent Revolution; they wanted to destroy the dynastic culture and feudalism, beside Colonialism and Imperialism. In history record, those feudal elements can survive, and have protection from people who claim that they are democrat, with their egalitarian banners. The real Democracy can’t stand well in dynastic-feudal encirclement.

Many legislative members, the new comers have link with people who hold the power; their parents are famous politician or hold high politician position in our political system, they are feudal generation. They are: Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono the son of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (President of Indonesia-Democrat Party), Puan Maharani the daughter of Megawati Soekarno Putri (former president of Indonesia-Indonesia Democratic Party-Struggle), Aditya Moha the son of Marlina Moha (Regent of Bolaang Mongondow/ Fuctional Group Party), Vanda Sarundajang the daughter of SH Sarundajang (Governor of North Sulawesi-Indonesia Democratic Party-Struggle), Awang Ferdian Hidayat the son of Awang Faroek Ishak (Governor of East Kalimantan), Karolin Margret Natasa the daughter of Cornelis ( Governor of West Kalimantan), Aditya Mutfi Ariffin the son of Rudy Ariffin (Governor of South Kalimantan), and many else, include the son of Agung Laksono, Amien Rais, etc.

The feudal generation could win the legislative election because their parent, their families are high state functional, or famous politicians (famous is different form good). Their parent used bureaucracy machine to influence voters to choose their children in legislative election.

Health democratic political system will create Meritocratic society: honorable position is only given to great people, people who have ability, capability, and other high criteria. Reformation movement eleven years ago had slogan anti-KKN (Corruption, Collusion, and Nepotism), Ironic, nowadays Indonesia political system contains corruption, collusion, and nepotism. Political pragmatics damages the destinations of reformation movement in 1998.

Actually after the proclamation of Indonesian Independency, there were some political parties which anti-feudalism, in political theoretic and political practices. They were, Masyumi Party, Communist Party of Indonesia, Socialist Party, and Catholic Party. Poor us, we don’t have any political parties which anti-feudalism in political theoretic and political practices nowadays.

Why do we have semi-feudal in political system? Maybe, first, recent political parties and political elites don’t like to learn from history. Don’t have desirability to continue the founding father’s political views about feudalism. Second, pragmatism culture has been covering their heart for long time; so that they don’t feel shy create the feudal generation, in which I believe it can make negative effects in our political system.
